“The whole picture at once”

At the University of New England, we run a coastal observing network across southern Maine, including wave buoys, pressure gauges, water-quality sondes, and topographic/bathymetric surveys. The SeaSignal radar has become one of the most valuable parts of that system. Our buoys and gauges measure conditions at single points, but the wave radar shows us the whole picture at once. We can now see how waves refract and lose energy around the Camp Ellis jetties, map surface currents and bathymetry across Saco Bay, and track storm conditions in real time. The radar continues to give us new insight into the dynamic coastal processes at play in coastal Maine.

“It just worked right away”

We love working with SeaSignal Technologies. The team is incredibly easy to work with, and they bring decades of expertise in coastal sensing to the table. After we purchased a system, they communicated expectations well, hit deadlines and remained available after installation to ensure everything worked smoothly. It was one of the few times I bought a high-tech sensor system that just worked right away, streaming fantastic data out of the box.

“Ahead of the curve in my field”

SeaSignal Technologies reached out to me with a wacky idea: test whether their radar system can reliably detect sea turtles while they’re nesting on the beach or swimming in the surf zone. That initial conversation turned into an exciting and compelling research collaboration that is helping fill key sea turtle conservation data gaps.
The SeaSignal Technologies team is easy to collaborate with. They are professional, provide quick turnaround times on requests, and have patiently spent hours training my graduate students and staff to use their radar, how to process data and how to do analyses.
SeaSignal’s post-processing capabilities are ahead of the curve in my field. The potential for their radar system to remotely observe sea turtle and human activity on remote nesting beaches is exciting, and it will have broad global applications. I can’t recommend SeaSignal enough.
